Tuam Stars Super Sunday (2nd Mar 2025)

What a way to advertise the opening to our 2025 club season. It was a busy day for Tuam Stars, Tuam Stadium and Galway football, and one with plenty to celebrate.
The day kicked off at 11am with our “Brekky with the Stars” hosted by the Ard Ri Hotel. The event boasted an all-star discussion panel including Peter Canavan, Ja Fallon, Peter Warren and Gary O’Donnell, with Ollie Turner proving more than capably in fulfilling the master of ceremonies role.

The event was opened by Club Chairperson Paul Collins. Alan Mongey then proceeded to give an insight into the working being done by Cairde Réalta Thuama to those in attendance. In addition to mapping out the 5 year development plan, Alan also provided details on collaborations between the Stars other local GAA clubs.
The Hotel proceeded to served up over 170 plated hot breakfasts to those who had pre-booked their tickets. The hotel currently boasts over 130 beds, and on the preceding Saturday night the pillows of these beds were mostly home to the heads of Tyrone fans. Once word got around the hotel that Peter the Great would be speaking there were queues at the function room door to pop in and hear from him.
From 11.15am the panel quickly settled into the discussion of all things football Ollie poked and prodded for to the panel to give honest opinion, and valuable insight on the new rules. The audience were treated to robust discussion on the pro and cons to the new rules. In the end the panel could only agree on one thing; and that was it was too soon to comprehensively decide if the new rules will be the fix we are all hoping for.
When it came to prediction time for the big match Peter may have been out manned in the Galway centric panel, but he was certainly not out gunned. Good natured discussion was had with some close to the bone banter exchanged with the audience, the only thing missing was my popcorn.
The members of panel laid down arms shortly after midday allowing time for the club to launch its new Mckeever Jersey. As part of the launch a jersey presentation was made to both Ja and Peter. The new jersey was well received by supporters, and marks the start to a 5 year deal sign between the Tuam Stars and Mckeever sports.
By 1pm it was time to make our way across town to the Stadium for the NFL clash of Galway and Tyrone. A near capacity crowd were present to enjoy the spectacle, and all Tuam Stars supporters were hoping to see Brian Mannion make his impact from the bench, he duly did by providing a number of assists.
At half time our U11s played games against the Corofin U11s. We had over 30 players togged and 3 games/pitches were played simultaneously. The crowd responded in kind to the efforts of all the young players and cheered tackles and kicks.
The half time event, co-ordinated by the county boards games development officer, was a big success and indeed is an occasion which will live long in the memory of the young players who participated. The national press also took note of the spirit of the occasion and had much praise for Tuam Stadium and the afternoon it served up.
